The Guardian of the Unknown Forest is an ancient, powerful being that keeps the Unknown Forest and its inhabitants safe. One of their only defining features is their red eyes, as they normally keep themselves hidden from people, due to their "unsettling appearance", and the fact that they were once hunted down by outsiders.
On the first night after orientation they scared the Thundermen away from the Unknown Forest, and later they sent Breeze Through The Willow and the other pegasi to save the Thundermen at the behest of Higglemas Wiggenstaff. The pegasi trust them completely, and believe they owe the guardian their lives.
In episode 37, the guardian reveals themself while defending the boys from a group of pit fiends. Travis describes them as follows: “Its body is like that of a millipede, except with long, multi-jointed, fleshy legs. Two arms the size of tree trunks bend at the elbows, and extend far beyond what could be considered normal. But perhaps the most unexpected thing is the face. It‘s almost human, but the proportions are all wrong- and then there are the eyes. Round and bulging, and red as blood.”
