Higglemas Wiggenstaff is the younger brother of Hieronymous Wiggenstaff , founder of Hieronymous Wiggenstaff's School for Heroism and Villainy. Higglemas is Hieronymous' sidekick, and in charge of the sidekick program that the Firbolg and Argo Keene are enrolled in. His office is on the third floor of the Sidekick and Henchperson Annex.
Higglemas looks substantially older than his older brother Hieronymous, has a collie named Hero, and never leaves his office.
Personality[]
Despite living on the bustling Wiggenstaff campus, Higglemas has a reputation among the students for being reclusive. He never leaves his office, opting to project an illusion of himself for important events like orientation because he's so paranoid about something happening to himself or Hieronymous, and doesn't know who he can trust (outside of rare exceptions like the Firbolg, whom he knows is well-intentioned and honest).
He can be foul-tempered, sarcastic, and blunt, and his behavior appears eccentric to those who don't know the truth about his dog or the reason he stays in his office. He dislikes the Heroic Oversight Guild, and expresses contempt towards bureaucracy, the notion of pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps, and most of all, the modern commercial system of heroism and villainy.
History[]
For centuries, Higglemas served as Hieronymous's sidekick, though he did not receive the same fame and accolades as his brother. When Hieronymous founded the school 250 years ago, Higglemas was made headmaster of the sidekick annex, a position he still holds today.
50 years ago, when a demon prince attempted to kill Hieronymous with a curse, Higglemas saved his brother by transforming him into a dog. The next day, Hieronymous was replaced by an impostor that took over the school, leaving Higglemas too paranoid to leave his heavily warded office or ask any of the staff for spell components, since anyone could be working for the demon prince. That same day, the Godscar Chasm appeared fully formed, and for some reason, everyone in Nua except Higglemas remembered that it had always existed.
When the Firbolg arrives on campus, Higglemas asks him to check over Hieronymous in dog form, and the Firbolg fails to notice anything strange, confirming Higglemas's fear that the transformation is becoming permanent. Higglemas recruits the Firbolg to help him gather components to transform Hieronymous back, but because the Firbolg cannot lie, he agrees to have his memory wiped so that he will not accidentally reveal the truth about Hieronymous. Higglemas implies that he has offered many people the choice to help him over the years, such as Leon, whom he transformed into a hawk so that Leon could do reconnaissance work in secret.
